EDUCATION
Being knowledgeable about transplant is an important part of feeling confident in your own transplant journey. Project Hope’s Education Department creates age-appropriate, engaging educational content that helps pediatric and AYA transplant patients better understand basic health topics, organ donation, transplantation, and their own personal health information.
Our team translates complex scientific information into patient-friendly, interactive learning experiences designed specifically for transplant recipients. Rather than simply providing information, we create hands-on activities, discussions, games, and educational modules that encourage participants to ask questions, engage with the material, and connect what they are learning to their own experiences.
Our educational programming covers foundational transplantation topics, including understanding transplantation and the immune system, caring for a transplanted organ, navigating healthcare, self-advocacy, and building confidence in telling and understanding your own transplant story.
Education is incorporated throughout Project Hope’s mentorship programs, giving mentors and mentees the resources they need to build knowledge in a supportive, peer-led environment. Ultimately, our goal is to empower young transplant patients with the knowledge to better understand their health, engage in their care, and feel confident navigating life with a transplant.
VOLUNTEER WITH US
Project Hope has a lot of projects and initiatives in progress! We always welcome new members who want to join our transplant community, and we love having volunteers who are ready and willing to support our programmatic efforts.
Important Note: Project Hope Transplant does not provide medical advice. All education materials serve as resources for transplant-related information but do not replace or substitute the direct advice of your transplant team or medical providers. If you need non-emergent medical care, contact your transplant team or PCP, or go to your nearest walk-in clinic. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call or text 911 (U.S.), or go to your nearest emergency room.
CURRENT INITIATIVES
Our current initiatives include supporting the educational needs of our national chapter hub and our chapter at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
We are also actively working with our up-and-coming chapters to adapt and adjust our modules for their specific patient populations. Additionally, a few of our partner organizations have joined us to launch initiatives to create educational materials and modules for their own individualized communities.
