Project Hope May Newsletter
Our Time In San Francisco
This April, we had the pleasure of attending the annual Society of Pediatric Liver Transplantation conference in San Francisco. We had the honor of hearing many incredible speakers and meeting so many wonderful people in the community. We appreciate the opportunity to give short address, describing our work, and highlighting the need for robust peer mentorship across the transplant community. We presented a poster titled "Project Hope: A Peer Support and Resource Network for Adolescent and Young Adult Solid Organ Transplant Recipients" and were presented with a peer distinction award form SPLIT. We wanted to take a moment to also thank the Patients, Families and Engaged Partner Committee (PFEP) for their support throughout this conference, we're thankful to have such wonderful partners. Closing out, to everyone reading this who is either a part of SPLIT or anyone who had the chance to attend, thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Other Wins!
April was an incredible month all around. We want to take a moment and celebrate some small personal victories. Both productions being put on by our members went swimmingly. With the musical "1776" breaking all previous records of the theater. Mathias, who is one of our mentors with Georgetown, had this to say about his production of "The Addams Family"
“I participated in my high schools spring musical, “The Addams Family” and this was without a doubt the best musical I have ever done in my 3 years of high school theatre. My role was Lurch and it was so funny to step into a role where I had no lines, only growls. This is a role I absolutely loved and this was honestly such an honor to be a part of. I’m also eligible to get nominated for the Cappies Award for Washington D.C. so maybe my acting was worth more to me than I thought. I loved this show and everyone there was so nice, a welcoming community to be in.”
Future Plans
Looking beyond the incredible month of April, the future is just as exciting. Project Hope is actively preparing to open a national chapter. We will welcome transplant recipients ages 16 and older nationwide to join our community and, if they choose, be trained as mentors. If you or someone you know would be interested, please do not hesitate to reach out. Also, keep an eye on your inboxes! More information on this national chapter in the coming months!
